As the son of Stephen Collins and Catherine Hicks on The WB series "7th
Heaven", a role he played from 1996 to 2002, handsome Barry Watson had the
role of luring in the teens and young women. His character, Matt, was only
minutely rebellious of his minister father, but he did start smoking--cigarettes.
A good kid, Matt even tried to learn sign language after meeting a deaf babe.
Watson managed to convey some of the angst of teenaged years without
treacle.

A native of Traverse City, Michigan, Watson had a recurring role on the
short-lived Aaron Spelling-produced "Mailbu Shores" (NBC, 1996). He
nevertheless impressed producer Spelling enough to land the role of the
eldest son in "7th Heaven". Watson began his acting career with a small role
in the NBC soap "Day of Our Lives" and segued to primetime playing a "young
guy at TV station" in the 1993 NBC TV-movie "Fatal Deception: Mrs. Lee
Harvey Oswald". That same year, he also had a small role in "Attack of the
50 Ft. Woman" on HBO. He was a potential beau for Nicholle Tom's Maggie in
several 1994 episodes of "The Nanny" (CBS) and co-starred with Tori Spelling
in the TV-movie "Co-ed Call Girl" (CBS, 1996). Watson segued to the big
screen as one of the high school students plotting the murder of a hated
teacher in Kevin Williamson's "Teaching Mrs. Tingle" (1999). Three years
later, he starred alongside Michael Rosenbaum and Harland Williams in the
cross-dressing comedy "Sorority Boys". |
