Cameron Crowe (born July 13, 1957) is an American writer and film director.
He was born in Palm Springs, California to James Crowe and Alice George. He
was raised in San Diego and began working as a music journalist when he was
15, later becoming a contributing editor for the music magazine Rolling
Stone.
His film career was launched at the age of 22 when he returned to high
school to do research for a book called Fast Times at Ridgemont High, which
would become successful as a film adaptation of the same name.

Cameron Crowe made his directorial debut with the teen romance, Say Anything,
a moderately successful cult hit. The film Jerry Maguire launched Crowe into
greater recognition, netting five Oscar nominations, including a win for
Cuba Gooding, Jr. for best supporting actor. The mostly autobiographical
film Almost Famous and the subsequent American adaptation of Abre los ojos,
Vanilla Sky, starring Tom Cruise, were both also quite successful. Crowe
received an Oscar for his screenplay for Almost Famous.
He married the Heart guitarist Nancy Wilson in 1986 and they have two
children.
In 1999, Crowe published Conversations with Billy Wilder (ISBN 0571201628),
a book of interviews with the film director Billy Wilder, then in his early
90s.
He compiled the Anthology collection of the works of Tom Petty and The
Heartbreakers in 2000. |
