Carson Jones Daly (born June 22, 1973 in Santa Monica, California) is a
popular television personality, most known for being a host and VJ on MTV's
Total Request Live.
Daly attended Santa Monica High School, and wanted to become a priest. His
mother hosts a television talk show in Palm Springs, California and was a
dancer and actress. His father died of cancer when Daly was six. Later, he
began playing golf, had the goal of playing professionally one day and
attended Loyola Marymount University on a golf scholarship, where he studied
theology. He attended university for one year, but changed direction after
starting an internship at a Palm Springs radio station, as well as a disc

The DJ job in San Diego led to Daly being offered a job in 1994 at Live 105
(KITS) in San Francisco. In 1995, Daly was offered the coveted afternoon
drive time slot at co-owned KOME in San Jose; his first assignment for the
station was to cover the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards live from New York City.
In 1996 he returned to the Los Angeles area as a DJ for popular Los Angeles
rock radio station KROQ.
In 1997, Daly first appeared on MTV as a VJ, and the following year became
the host of Total Request Live. In 2002 he began a second show, Last Call
with Carson Daly, that airs late-night on NBC. In 2003 he stepped down from
TRL to concentrate on Last Call.
His engagement to actress Tara Reid ended in 2001.
A recent burglary of Daly's home, allegedly by an obsessed female fan, saw
such personal items as clothes, awards, and photographs stolen. An arrest
was made when the unnamed person attempted to auction stolen boxer shorts on
eBay. However, it has been later rumored that Carson Daly himself has
perpetrated the act and he himself in tandem with a friend, auctioned off
his boxers in order to produce a front to his image for his MTV demographic.
After the airing of a popular sketch on Saturday Night Live, many of his
detractors began referring to him as Carson "The Tool" Daly or simply "The
Tool."
He is referenced in the NBC sitcom My Name Is Earl (debuted September 2005)
as the person who introduces Earl (Jason Lee) to the concept of karma.
He used to have a tattoo of the word "love" on his ankle, in reference to
his his ex-fiance Jennifer Love Hewitt, but had it covered by a tattoo of an
open Swiss Army Knife with a crab leg instead of a blade. |
