Eamon Doyle (born 1984 in Staten Island, New York), professionally known as
just Eamon, is an American R&B singer and songwriter. His debut album, I
Don't Want You Back, reached the top ten of the U.S. Billboard 200 in March
2004 on the success of its lead single "F*** It (I Don't Want You Back)". As
well as reaching the top twenty of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, the song
achieved success in other nations, reaching number-one in Australia, the
United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Sweden. This single is the first song with
profanity in the title to reach the U.S. top twenty, as well as the first to
reach #1 in the aforementioned countries.

Eamon's father, Walter Doyle, was in a doo wop group, and Eamon has been
singing live since he was nine years old. At fifteen, he caught the
attention of writer/producer Milk Dee who had worked with entertainers such
as MC Lyte, Janet Jackson, and Mary J. Blige. Dee and his co-producer Mark
Passy helped to refine Eamon's sound.
"F*** It (I Don't Want You Back)" immediately caught the attention of urban,
rhythmic, and pop radio stations when it was released in the U.S. in late
2003 due to its stripped down production and edited profanities about an ex-lover
who was two-timing the singer. Jive Zomba fast tracked the release of a
music video for the song and commissioned an album for release in early
2004. The track reached the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100, and the
popularity of the song helped the album, I Don't Want You Back, debut the
top 10 in the U.S. The success of the song prompted Jive Zomba to release
the song internationally where it went to number-one in Australia, New
Zealand, and Sweden. On April 24, 2004, the single debuted at #1 on the UK
charts.
Both the success of the single and the controversial nature of its lyrics
prompted production of an answer single, "F.U.R.B , by an unknown female
singer named Frankee who has claimed to be an ex-girlfriend of Eamon's.
While Eamon initially said that he selected Frankee to record the song at an
audition, he later stated that his only involvement was in clearing the use
of the music with the following written statement:
"Just to clear it up once and for all, I was not involved with 'F.U.R.B.' I
have never met Frankee and she is definitely not my girlfriend or
ex-girlfriend. The only way I was associated with it was when I was asked
for licensing permission by Frankee's representatives, which makes me a
writer on her song by copyright law. But I really didn't expect all this to
come out of it, they are having fun with it, it's cool, but in the end they
are paying me for their 15 minutes of fame and I welcome her to my world of
Ho-Wop!"
Eamon has a Guiness World Record for "The Most expletives in a #1 Song" in
his #1 Single "F*** It (I Don't Want You Back)" and is in the Guiness World
Records Book. In the 2006 book he is plugged with a top-of the page picture
of his record. |
