Five Biography

5ive (or later known as Five) were a British boy band formed in 1997. They enjoyed marginal success worldwide, particularly in the UK, parts of Europe and in Australia. They disbanded on 27 September 2001.

An ad in a UK theatre magazine, The Stage, was posted 1997, asking for young male singers/dancers to audition for a boy band-style group, but one that had "attitude and edge".

Bob and Chris Herbert, the two men who had earlier created the Spice Girls, thought the time was right for a male group. 3,000 hopefuls auditioned and they were finally narrowed down to only fourteen, five of whom had arranged themselves into a group while waiting for their audition and subsequently were signed with BMG/RCA.

In November of 1997, the band released their first single in the UK; "Slam Dunk (Da Funk)". The group went on to release countless more hit singles, and three full-length albums. They experienced marginal success around the world, racking up three number-one singles in the UK and selling an estimate of 15-20 million records worldwide [1]; which includes 7 million albums worldwide and 1 million in the United States alone. Although they did attempt to crack the US market, 5ive did not achieve this and are only somewhat dimly remembered for their first (and last) top 10 hit, "When The Lights Go Out".

The five members were, Scott Robinson, Ritchie Neville, Jason 'J' Brown, Abs Breen and Sean Conlon.

They announced their breakup after a relatively short career in 2001, after releasing their third album Kingsize. They then released a greatest hits in the same year. Member Abs then went on to a solo career and released a solo album, Abstract Theory in 2003.
