Gisele Caroline Nonnenmacher Bündchen was born in Horizontina Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil on July 20, 1980. Gisele was raised in Horizontina, a small town of less then 20,000 people located in the southern part of Brazil. With six daughters in the family, her five other sisters are all natural phenomenon all aspiring to be models.
In pre-school "Escola Evangélica Frederico Jorge Logemann" Gisele Bundchen already was a small girl, very thin. In mid school, Gisele used to be called Olívia Palito (Olive Oyl - Popeye's skinny friend), Somaliana (person from Somalia) and Saracura (kind of snake - "trumpet-creeper"). Her school friends used to make fun of her, because she was tall and thin.
All she wanted to be was a volleyball player, says her mother, and Gisele confirms, "I dreamed of being Ana Mozer, Fernanda Venturini" (Brasilian volleyball players), and play for Sogipa. She was a really agitating kid: "I was like a monkey. Until I was around 7 years old, I used to run on the streets in my underwear".
A natural phenomenon, Gisele Bundchen stands tall at 5'11", with dark blue eyes, a freckled face and wavy brown hair. When she and her father made her first trip to the big city, model scouts quickly uncovered the gem. While dining at a Sao Paulo McDonalds, Gisele was approached by a modeling agent and despite her father's resistance, moved to the city at the age of 14, and she's lived alone ever since.
Gisele Bundchen has since been in campaigns for major fashion houses such as Ralph Lauren, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Valentino, Celine, Gianfranco Ferre, and Chloe.
In the year 2000 many things happened to Gisele's career, many important things, which helped to consolidate her as a supermodel. The fashion magazine editors started to call Gisele an übermodel. "Über" in German means "over". That means Gisele was considered one of the best models ever. No other model had been called like that.
Gisele Bundchen signed a multimillion-dollar contract with North American lingerie firm, Victoria's Secret. As a result, the Brazilian beauty appeared in several of their lingerie, beauty and hosiery campaigns for television and print, as well as in their point-of-sale materials. And will receive a hefty sum of 20 million US dollars for it.
In the beginning of 2001 Gisele Bundchen announced to the world what she called a "retirement". It was an exaggeration. She was thinking about her life quality. "I have been a slave of my work for five years, now I want some time for me. I will only work for the ones who like me". In that "ones" was included Dolce & Gabbana. She also have done some works for Christian Dior. She was still working for Victoria's Secrets and, in Brazil, she had an exclusive contract for the department store C&A.
She has been romantically linked to male model Scott Barnhill, billionaire Joao-Paulo Diniz and actor Josh Hartnett. Gisele Bundchen is currently dating Leonardo DiCaprio. |
