Jason Statham (born September 12, 1972 in London, England) is an English actor, known best for his work in the Guy Ritchie crime caper films Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, though he has also appeared as a supporting character in several Hollywood productions such as The One and the American remake of The Italian Job and its upcoming sequel The Brazilian Job. His latest work is the Transporter franchise.

Statham's first starring role attempted to cast him as an powerful post-millennial action hero in directors Louis Letterier and Corey Yuean's fast-paced, check-your-logic-chip-at-the-door thriller "The Transporter" (2002), which further introduced him to American audiences but failed to fully establish Statham alongside other A-list new-wave action stars such as Vin Diesel. More advantageous to his career was a turn in the ensmble of the 2003 remake of the heist classic "The Italian Job," a slick if conventional thriller in which he played Handsome Rob, an English race-car whiz, world-class womanizer, getaway driver and what the New York Times called "the movie's grinning testosterone shot." He also made a crackerjack villain in the equally gimmicky and energetic thriller "Cellular" (2004) before reprising his role as the driver Frank Martin for the lesser sequel "The Transporter 2" (2005). |
