The 74 receptions were the 2nd-most ever for an NFL rookie tight end (Philadelphia’s Keith Jackson had 81 catches in 1988). Shockey accounted for 894 receiving yards, the most by a Giants tight end since Bavaro had 1,001 in 1986 and the 2nd-most in history by a 1st-year player at his position. It was the 1st time the Giants had 1 wideout and 1 tight end accomplish the feat since Nov. 15, 1987, when wide receiver Lionel Manuel (105) and Bavaro (102) did it in a victory at Philadelphia. The signature play of the game occurred in the 2nd period, when he caught a short pass from Kerry Collins and ran through safety David Gibson’s attempted tackle for a 24-yard gain to help set up a Tiki Barber 4-yard touchdown run. He posted a career-high 11 receptions for 111 yards vs. Washington (11/17).
