Her identical twin sister, Jacqueline Hennessy, is a magazine writer and TV show host in Canada. Her and her sister played twins in Dead Ringers (1988).
Jill is multi-lingual, being able to speak Italian, French, Spanish, and German. This is partly because of her mixed heritage, which included Irish, Italian, Swedish, French, and Ukrainian.
Her husband, Paolo, opened a tavern in Northvale, New Jersey in 1999, and named it Hennessy, after Jill. The tavern serves comfort food. Jill also enjoys riding motercycles with her husband. The pair welcome a son, Marco, on 17 September 2003. They also had a second marriage ceremony in January, 2001, that was at New York City Hall, with Rudolph Guiliani officating.
"Crossing Jordan" co-star, Miguel Ferrer says that Jill is a "non-angry" version of her character, Jordan Cavanaugh. Jill is also a fan of the Indigo Girls, that a poster of the act hands in the kitchen of Jordan's apartment. Jill also was a finalist for the Role of Dana Scully, on The X-Files, but the role went to Gillian Anderson.
Has a song named after her: "The Ballad of Jill Hennessy" by Mollycuddle.

Jill father, John, was a meat salesman, which required considerable travel and resulted in frequent moves. Her mother, Maxine, left the family when Jill was small. She also has a younger brother, John Jr.
