Kieran Culkin (born September 30, 1982 in New York City, New York) is an American actor.
The brother of child actor Macaulay Culkin, Kieran Culkin debuted at the age of eight in a small role alongside his starring brother in Home Alone. He played his brother's cousin, Fuller. Kieran continued acting as a child and teenager, mainly working in comedy films, including Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and Father of the Bride and its sequel. As a teenager, Kieran switched between lead roles in independent films, and small parts in mainstream films. His most notable role to date was probably the lead in the well received art house film, Igby Goes Down, for which Kieran was nominated for a Golden Globe Award.

Although he has seemingly been overshadowed by his older brother Macaulay, Kieran Culkin emerged in 1998 as a solid performer in his own right with a starring turn as a youth stricken with Morquio Syndrome in "The Mighty". This fourth offspring of former child actor Christopher 'Kit' Culkin and his common law wife Patricia Brentrup landed his first film role as cousin Fuller to older brother Mac's Kevin McCallister in "Home Alone" (1990), which he reprised in "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" (1992). Culkin branched out on his own playing the son of Steve Martin and Diane Keaton in the 1991 remake of "Father of the Bride" and its 1995 sequel "Father of the Bride Part II". Those roles, however, gave no indication of what the young actor could do. After three auditions, he landed the role of an intelligent teen whose physical development is impaired in "The Mighty". Holding his own with Sharon Stone (cast as his mother), Culkin and co-star Elden Henson developed a fine rapport. While intimately aware of the pitfalls of sudden fame (as witnessed by his brother's meteoric career and spectacular crash and his familial problems that were fodder for the tabloids), he continues to undertake challenging roles. Culkin and Henson reteamed as part of the ensemble for the teen comedy "She's All That" and he also accepted a supporting role in the feature version of "The Cider House Rules" (both 1999). In 2002, Culkin starred in the black comedy "The Dangerous Lives of Alter Boys" with Jodie Foster. Culkin continued to show his preference for smaller, independent minded projects by starring as an adolescent who is unable to adapt to adulthood in "Igby Goes Down" (2002). |
