Kyle Chandler (born 17 September, 1965 in Buffalo, New York) is a television actor. Born in upstate New York, he was actually raised in Loganville, Georgia. He got his education at the University of Georgia, Athens.
This strapping leading man of TV first won notice as Jeff Metcalf, the wannabe football player pining after his brother's fiance, on the 1940s-era "Homefront" (ABC, 1991-93). Kyle Chandler went on to headline the highest-rated new series of the 1996-97 season, CBS' "Early Edition".

Portraying an ordinary guy who received the morning newspaper a day in advance, the actor brought an understated charm and heroism tempered by skepticism. He remained with the show until it played out its course by the end of the 1999-2000 season.
Raised on a farm in a small Georgia community, Chandler was brought to L.A. after being spotted by an ABC talent scout. Nevertheless, he made his debut as a football player in the 1988 CBS TV-movie "Quiet Victory: The Charlie Wedemeyer Story". His Southern roots were highlighted in the small role of a good-ol' boy from Georgia in "Unconquered" (CBS, 1989), about integration. Chandler had a recurring role as a new platoon recruit in the Vietnam drama "Tour of Duty" (CBS, 1990). His relaxed handsomeness played well opposite Jon Voight, as a rodeo rider, in "Convict Cowboy" (Showtime, 1995).
Chandler broke into feature films alongside Ellen Burstyn and Martin Landau in the unreleased "The Color of Everything" (lensed 1990). He returned to his country roots for his first released film, "Pure Country" (1992), in which he played the ambitious boyfriend of Lesley Ann Warren who impersonates a country singer (George Strait) at her request. Although he has yet to find a breakthrough role in features, he did appear as an officious captain at the military base in "Mullholland Falls" (1996).
Standing at 6'1", with thick eyebrows and a genial demeanor, Chandler is often cast as in athletic roles. He made his NYC stage debut as the bare-chested drifter romancing Ashley Judd in the 1994 Broadway revival of "Picnic", a role previously played by the likes of Paul Newman and William Holden. |
