Madhuri Dixit Biography

Madhuri Dixit (born May 15, 1967) is an Indian actress. She is a native of Mumbai, India, and one of Bollywood's leading ladies.
Her first big hit was in Tezaab (1988). She followed up with hits such as Dil (1990), Beta (1992), and Khal Nayak (1993). Her biggest hit was Hum Aapke Hain Kaun! in 1994. She was the queen bee of Bollywood at the time, and known for her stunning looks and sensuous dancing.

Newcomers have taken some of the spotlight from Madhuri, but she continues to land plum roles in a few carefully chosen films.

She appeared in the hit Dil To Pagal Hai (1997). In 2002 she starred alongside two of Bollywood's biggest stars, Shahrukh Khan and ex-Miss World Aishwarya Rai, in a remake of the movie Devdas, a classic story of star-crossed love. The film attracted worldwide attention and was featured at the Cannes Film Festival.

Madhuri now splits her time between India and Los Angeles, in the U.S. She married a Los Angeles physician, Dr. Sriram Nene, in 1999. She has two children, a boy named Areen (born in 2003) and a baby boy born in March 2005.

Madhuri Dixit was the muse and sometime model for well-known Indian painter M.F. Hussain. She also appeared in his film Gaja Gamini (2000).

She has won four Filmfare Awards for Best Actress, as well as a Best Actress in a Supporting Role award for her work in the 2002 film Devdas.
