Nicholas Bernard James Adam Byrne, known as Nicky Byrne, member of famous
Irish pop band Westlife, was born October 9, 1978 in the Irish capital
Dublin.
He is the son of Yvonne and Nicholas Byrne senior and brother of older
sister Gillian and younger brother Adam.
Before joining Sligo-based band IOU, he tried to become a professional
football player and had joined Leeds United F.C. as a goalkeeper in 1995. He
had even played for Irish Youth National teams. After failing to make the
first team he returned to Dublin and formed Westlife in July 1998 with its
other founding members. Nicky is known for his husky singing voice, which is
featured in all of Westlife's music.
Nicky is married to Georgina Byrne, former Ahern, daughter of Irish
Taoiseach (prime minister) Bertie Ahern. They tied the knot in August 2003
in France.
