Tweet (born Charlene Keys in New York City, New York) is an African-American R&B singer and guitarist. Originally a part of DeVante Swing's Swing Mob collective as a member of the female quartet Sugah, Tweet later reunited with former Swing Mob members Missy Elliott and Timbaland, who became her producers.Elliott signed Tweet to Elektra Records through her Goldmind imprint in 2000, and she began recording guest vocals on a number of tracks, including Timbaland & Magoo's "All Y'all" and the bulk of Elliott's third LP, Miss E...So Addictive.
Tweet's first single was "Oops! (Oh My)", a risqué single guest-starring Elliott that featured a typically unusual Timbaland rhythm arrangement. "Oops!" hit #1 on the US R&B charts and #7 on the US pop charts. Aside from the Timbaland-helmed tracks like "Oops!" and its follow-up, "Call Me", most of the other tracks on Tweet's debut album, Southern Hummingbird, had more of a gentler, soul music-based sound. The album, released in April of 2002, went gold within a month of its release.
After a three-year hitaus, Tweet is to release her second album, It's Me Again, in mid-2005. The lead single was "Turn the Lights Off", featuring Elliott and produced by Kwame.
"Oops! (Oh My)" is still in recurrent rotation on many urban, rhythmic, and top 40 radio stations across the U.S. |
