VICTORIA BECKHAM BIOGRAPHY

Victoria Beckham

Victoria Caroline Beckham (born Victoria Caroline Adams on 17 April 1974) is an English popular music singer, who first came to prominence as a member of girl band the Spice Girls, as Posh Spice, a nickname given to her by the BBC's Top of the Pops magazine, a monthly popular music magazine aimed at teenaged girls.

Beckham was born in the county of Hertfordshire to Anthony William Adams and Jacqueline Doreen Cannon. She has a younger sister Louise and a younger brother Christian. Prior to joining the Spice Girls, Beckham had worked with a number of music acts, attempting to secure celebrity, but without success. Sometime later her audition tapes for the Spice Girls came into the public domain in which the limits of her vocal talent were revealed.

Beckham married the ex-Manchester United and present England and Real Madrid footballer David Beckham, on July 4, 1999, with whom she has three sons: Brooklyn, born March 4, 1999, Romeo, born September 1, 2002, and Cruz, born February 20, 2005 by caesarean section at the Ruber International Hospital in Madrid.

Following the birth of her first child, Beckham's weight loss became a topic of much discussion in the British tabloid press. She agreed to appear in adverts for a potato crisp brand but there were claims that she would not actually eat the crisps.

An alleged plot to kidnap Beckham on November 1, 2002, was revealed by the News of the World. The court case against the alleged kidnappers collapsed after the original informant admitted that he "made the whole thing up". In a film titled Kill Posh [1] by the viral filmmaker Asa Bailey [2] Victoria Beckham is depicted first shoplifting clothes before she flees from the shop and gets run over in the street. The film was banned by the Beckhams but is still available online.

Despite being one of the most well-known celebrities in Britain, and having all her music reach the top ten (the only solo spice to do so), Victoria Beckham's career as a solo artist is largely considered to have been a commercial failure. The only Spice Girl not to have had a UK number one single as a solo artist (despite "Out Of Your Mind" was the solo-Spice single with biggest sales in its first week, selling 180,584 copies), she fought unsuccessful, media-driven "chart battles" for the number 1 position with Spiller in 2000 (whose single featured the vocals of Beckham's contemporary and rival Sophie Ellis-Bextor) and Kylie Minogue in 2001. Her debut album reached number 10 in the UK album chart. In support of the Not Such an Innocent Girl single she appeared at Party in the Park in Birmingham sporting a fake lip piercing that attracted much ridicule.

In 2003, she became involved with rap music producer Damon Dash in an attempt to reignite her career. A first single called "Let Your Head Go/ This Groove" (a double A-side) was released in late December 2003 where it hit number 3. This single was a compromise with her manager Simon Fuller, one side being a pop/dance song and the other side a song displaying strong R&B influences. A second single was in the pipeline, but this and other music plans were shelved due possibly to the over-exposure dealt by allegations of marital infidelity levelled at Beckham's husband, David, loss of confidence in the music industry, deciding to take a family holiday in the summer instead, and feeling that fashion would be a more productive field to work in.

An album titled 'Come Together' was fully recorded and mixed but never released. It leaked to the internet in 2004 and featured the singles 'Let Your Head Go', 'This Groove', and 'Me And You This Time'. It also featured a cover (featuring a rap) of the Beatles song 'Come Together' which gave the album title. The record was eventually shelved by the record company.

In 2004, her happy marriage image suffered when a string of women lined up to claim having had affairs with David, including Rebecca Loos. All were dismissed as "ludicrous", "absurd" and "unsubstantiated" by David Beckham and the Beckhams showed a publicly united front against the allegations. However, Loos maintained that she had not fabricated the allegations, and since the Beckhams took no legal action to disprove them, they have continued to mar the image of the Beckhams as the UK's "golden couple". The British press and public, however, eventually lost interest in the story, and the Beckhams have appeared to continue life as normal.

In 2003, she denied rumors of breast enhancement on British TV insisting, "I'm completely natural, except for my fingernails and I have a bit of help with my hair and a bit of San Tropez going on." A year later she told British chat show host Michael Parkinson, "I haven't had a boob job." This was found out to be a lie in 2005 when a court document relating to a libel case she and her husband filed revealed she did have her breasts enhanced. The file, obtained by Britain's The People newspaper, says "That the Second Claimant (Victoria Beckham) had in fact undergone breast enhancement surgery and had lied about it on the 'Tabloid Tales' television programme."

Beckham has had a well-publicized feud with supermodel Naomi Campbell, which began when she publicly branded Campbell as "a massive cow" and a "bitch" in 2000. Campbell later remarked that she could not understand how the former Spice Girl ever got the nickname "Posh". However, any bad blood (tabloid-induced or otherwise) between them seems to have subsided in the past few years.

There was also a period in 2005 when it was reported that Victoria Beckham might be sued by HM Queen Elizabeth II for use of what appeared to be The Queens crown as Victoria Beckham's clothes line symbol.

In late 2005, a salsa-influenced track by Victoria Beckham leaked onto the net. It was titled "Back To Life". With a few feeble rumours that Posh might attempt to release an e-single, that is only available for download.

Beckham has been in the studio recently, material that has been produced includes "Come Together", "Don't mess with that Dude" and "Feels so Good". It seems doubtful that these songs will ever be released, but they are availiable on some fansites and on cd from eBay. [citation needed]

Victoria Beckham is the subject of an "autobiography", Learning to Fly. The book was the 3rd best selling non-fiction title of 2001, and has been translated into several Asian languages. Ironically, Victoria Beckham told a Spanish journalist in 2005 that she had never read a single book in her entire life, not even her autobiography; according to the Daily Mail, '"I haven't read a book in my life," she said. "I haven't got enough time. I prefer to listen to music, although I do love fashion magazines."'

Beckham also revels in her passion for Gucci and Prada and her fondness for high-heels. She is rarely seen smiling in public, for she reportedly hates the way she looks when she smiles.
